What is Design Jam?

Design Jam is a one-day design session, during which people will team up to tackle engaging User Experience (UX) challenges. Similar to developer ‘hackdays’ the aim is to get UX professionals, designers, developers (and more) together to learn and collaborate with each other while working on actual design problems. The sessions champion open-source thinking & sharing and are non-profit, run by local volunteers.

Who should attend?

Students or experienced practitioners, interaction designers, UX researchers, information architects, Web and graphic designers and even developers, anyone who would like to practice their research, brainstorming, sketching and collaboration skills.

What happens at Design Jam?

On the day, attendees assign themselves to a group based on the skills they contribute and what they’d like to learn.. The teams are giving a design challenge that they tackle by doing research, sketching, guerilla testing and other UX techniques.

Teams share their process and ideas halfway through. The day finishes with final presentations. Outcomes could be a prototype, sketches, storyboards or videos - whatever communicates the idea best.

What happens to the ideas we come up with?

All materials, ideas, all outputs, visualizations and other contributions you make during the day must be contributed under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license will be shared on the Design Jam wiki. Teams will have to write a short wiki post about their design process and idea.

Design Jam Iasi #1: Intense, Fun & A Rip-Roaring Success, Say Over 50 Jammers!

Summer Web 2011 + Design Jam Iasi #1: Conclusion

Thoughts extracted from the blog post:

Cristi Bârlădeanu

“The word of the day for Design Jam Iasi was for sure “inspiration”. The mix’n'match of ideas coming from people with different background and complimentary perspectives on what design and UX should be modeled like laid a rock-solid foundation for creativity and innovation. That’s how we got a robot, augmented reality and paper tablets as solutions for the same challenge :) A big thumbs up for the local champions and congratulations for all the attendees, looking forward to see the same enthusiasm and passion brought together to Design Jam Iasi #2!”

Bogdan Gâza

“Had loads of fun at #djiasi. Looking forward for the next iteration of the event. Many thanks to the organizers!”
