Initial Research

While conducting our initial research, we focused on the individual journeys that we took to and from work/university. After mapping out our travels we rated each stage of the trip emotionally so we could identify pain points in our journeys and recognise trends between each other.

After working individually for the Initial Research, we came together to discuss our journeys and use that knowledge as the foundation of our brainstorming session. We came up with a range of ideas but settled on two main areas to focus on:

Health & Exercise

We then discussed these two areas in more detail and selected the area of Health & Exercise as the focus of our application, orientating around cycling.

Our Idea - RaceHome

RaceHome is a virtual commuting service that helps cyclists get in shape while they race each other. Participants track their progress against themselves, their team mates and other commuters while giving virtual and real gifts as rewards. It generates profit through sponsorship and information gathered from the races.

This is the first screen of the application. Here you can select your journey and competitors you will race against.

This screen will show you which users have decided to compete against you as well as provide the chance to goad your fellow competitors.

To avoid participants from looking at the mobile device while cycling we will utilise both sound and vibration to inform the users of relevant information throughout their journey. With headphones, the users will be provided with navigational updates and fighting talk from their competitors. Vibration will be used to alert the cyclist of any impending accidents on their journey.

All the data collected from the journey will be uploaded to the system's server and processed before displaying relevant statistics about the trip on the user's mobile device.
